We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Sandra Aida Dobbin (nee Pulido), on May 30th 2024, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Sandra was predeceased by her father Jairo Pulido; in-laws Craig Dobbin and Eleanor Dobbin; grandparents Claudina Sierra de Pulido, Jorge Enrique Pulido, Rosa Yara de Cordoba, Teodoro Cordoba Jimenez; and uncle Jorge Enrique Pulido Jr.

Her memory will be cherished by her soulmate and husband of 33 years, Mark; and her greatest source of pride, her loving children, Megan, Maria (Liam Horne) and Michael; as well as her mother Angelica Cordoba.

Deeply saddened by this loss are her brother, Freddy Pulido (Claudia), cousins Mauricio (Venda), and Tony (Stacy) Ripke; and aunt Marta (Helmut) Ripke. She will also be missed by a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in-law, and friends and other relatives in Canada, Colombia, and the United States.

Sandra was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and moved to Canada in 1988. She graduated with a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from Memorial University. She was a proud Colombian and a proud Canadian. Sandra was most at home hiking trails in Newfoundland and around the world, or in her beautiful garden. All will remember her magnetic presence and her warm and generous nature.

Sandra navigated her cancer diagnosis with the same grace and resilience as she did the rest of her life. The family would like to thank, in particular, Dr. Adrian Major, MJ Lousier, and the cancer team at the Health Sciences Centre for their outstanding care, love, and support over the course of her treatment.

The funeral service will be held at the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Monday June 3rd at 11am.  A Celebration of Life will follow from 12:30pm – 3:00pm at the Rooms.

Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory. Donations may be made to a food bank, or the Ovarian Cancer Research and Education (OCRE) Fund at Memorial University.

We are so sorry to hear of Sandra’s passing. She was such a lovely, kind and generous person. She loved you so much. It was obvious every time we saw you together what a beautiful love story you had. That is so rare. You are so blessed to have had those years and all those memories. I hope they sustain you in the years to come.

I know Sandra loved her children more than anything. When I visited your home for her to give me decorating advice, which she was great at, the first thing she wanted to show me were the children’s rooms. I also have a fun memory of her knocking on the door for help when the dog got loose. We ran around and the dog was found. That was a long time ago. Every time I saw Sandra there was a warm smile and a hug and questions about how my children were.

Sandra was a special person. She was kind. That is rare these days.. She was truly kind.

Mark and Family

We are very saddened to hear of your loss..

My sincerest condolences to Mark, Megan, Maria, Michael, and Mrs. Cordoba on Sandra’s passing. As a classroom teacher, I saw first hand Sandra’s boundless love and commitment to her children and their learning. Along with immense curiosity and an eagerness to learn, Megan, Maria, and Michael came to school each day with a sense of humility, compassion, and respect for others – all qualities demonstrated by and nurtured in them by their devoted mother. Sandra was immensely giving of her time and resources at both the school and the classroom level. Whether it was a contribution of classroom supplies, arts and crafts or baking materials, Sandra quietly and lovingly made these generous gifts to us. She assisted in very tangible ways in the many initiatives of our school’s PTA. I hold a lovely memory of the Dobbin family walking across the path in front of Bishop Feild at the end of a successful Saturday school grounds clean up: Mark, with a garden tool in hand and Michael perched on his shoulders; Sandra, walking by Mark’s side, hand in hand with Megan and Maria – all five of them sporting their beautiful smiles and sharing family giggles together. So lovely. I wish to extend a prayer of peace and comfort to the Dobbin and Cordoba-Pulido families. Rest in eternal peace, Sandra.

Dear Mark, Maria, Megan, Michael and Angelica,

Paul and I were so shocked and saddened to hear of Sandra’s far too early passing. Seems horribly tidy to say those simple words, when your entire world will have tilted on it’s axis. Love like the love we saw between you, is a rare and precious gift and you are a fortunate man to have known it. We’ll be thinking of you. and of your family in the coming difficult year as you find your way through the suddenly too large spaces.

I’m so sad to hear about Sandra’s passing. We were both members of the St John’s Newcomers Club in the 90’s when I moved there from Toronto. She was such a kind thoughtful person. I remember her loving her family so much. My prayers go out to her husband, children, and family. I’m so sorry for your devastating loss.
