Minnie Parsons (nee Stone)

November 27, 1931 to May 24, 2024

Obituary

Minnie passed peacefully from this world on the evening of Friday, May 24, 2024 at the age of 92 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Walter (Ted) (2003), her parents Annie and John Stone, sister and brother-in-law Grace and Reg Sheppard, brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Olive Stone, brother-in-law Gene Coombs, sister-in-law Marie Stone.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children: Carol (Don) Welshman, Elizabeth (Blaine) Crocker, Lois (Ed) Thorne, and Robert (Darlene) Parsons; her grandchildren: Marcy (Conrad) Mollenkopf, Melanie (Fred) Welshman, Michelle (Brent) Ashbaugh, Nicole (Chris) Thorne, Brittany Crocker and Daniel (Leah) Crocker; as well as her many great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Also left to mourn are sister Florrie Coombs, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Gordon Taylor, brother Roland Stone, sister-in-law Olive Stone; also a large circle of extended family and friends including special nephews Philip (Bonnie) Sheppard and Stephen (Dave) Taylor, great-nephew Mark (Noah) Sheppard, and special grand-niece Kim (Colin) Skinner.

Minnie was born in Bryant’s Cove in 1931, the eldest of six children. At an early age, she learned the value of working hard and helping others. In 1963, she and her husband Ted moved their young family to Labrador City where, in addition to raising her family, Minnie volunteered with the ACW and, for many years, worked part-time at the Royal Theatre. Those years spent in Labrador were busy ones, filled with good friends and good times. In 1978, Minnie, Ted, and their youngest son Robert moved back to Byrant’s Cove. There she continued to enjoy sewing, berry-picking, cooking and baking, as well as her work and fellowship with the ACW.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Minnie was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was a kind, humble, and gracious lady who was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and residents of Karwood Retirement Centre, and to the staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Care Home (3 North) for the exceptional care and compassion they provided in the last few days of her life.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at Carnell’s Funeral Home, located on 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s on Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Carol and families,
I would like to offer our condolences on the passing of your Mother. I only saw the obituary today, if I had seen it before her funeral my Mother and I would have been to the funeral and passed along our prayers if you had been there.
God Bless, I hope the Theatre Lady didn’t suffer!
Take Care

Amazing Grace. Winnie has finally been invited into God’s living arms. I had the opportunity to meet Winnie a few times and she was ever so kind to me.. We had a drink of Lambs rum day,and I enjoyed myself., May your soul rest in peace.

To the Parsons/Stone families,
I am very sorry to hear about Minnie’s passing. I hadn’t seen her for quite some time but I remember her quiet demeanour and her being such a sweet lady. Condolences to all the family.

Robert, Beth and family. We are sorry to hear of Aunt Minnie’s passing. She was a joyful soul, full of chatter, and loved to remember days gone by. An especially fond memory from when I was a young, one I’ll never forget, was the story/song of “the flippin’ little chicken.” It was rekindled with every visit amongst other stories with Aunt Grace and Mom. She spend many days and weeks with Mom and Dad in Hr Grace South when she didn’t want to be in Bryant’s Cove on her own. She was great company and appreciated theirs as well.. We are sorry we can’t be there with you to say farewell but know our thoughts are with you. Love and hugs to you all.
