Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved Ian Webber who passed peacefully away on June 15, 2024, at the age of 69, at home in St. John’s. Ian (Poppy) was a long-term recipient of the care provided by the Eastern Residential Support Board.  He was a long-standing member of the Special Olympics Bowling Team and was active with the athletics program as well. Ian loved life and had and made friends everywhere he went! Leaving to mourn numerous caregivers, past caregivers, fellow residents, athletes, and friends.

To celebrate his life, a service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on June 21, 2024, 2pm. Interment to follow at Kenmount Road Anglican Cemetery.”

I had the pleasure of knowing and coaching Ian with Mount Pearl Special Olympics over 30 years ago. He had the most gentle and endearing smile. Thinking of all whose lives he touched.

So sorry to hear of Ian’s passing..My son Craig and Ian lived together at ERSB for many years and did well together..We would only see him at bowling in recent years and he would be excited to see us.

So sorry to hear of Ian’s passing. He was a sweet soul. I remember coaching him in special olympics and he was always so happy and glad to be there with his friends. He will be missed by so many.

What a loss to all who knew and loved him – and there were many. it was a privilege to seem him play and compete in Special Olympics. A sweeter person never lived. Emily, Jamie and I send our most sincere sympathy.

I had the privilege of working with Ian when he first came to ERSB. We had a very good relationship and many memories were made especially during holidays. He spent time at my place during Christmas which was also a hard time for Ian. You will never be forgotten my buddy. Rest in peace. Until we meet again.

I had the pleasure of working with Ian for many years. He enjoyed going bowling with Special Olympics in both Mount Pearl and St John’s. He loved listening to music especially the Cabin Party on VOCM.
