Elizabeth (Betty) Neary

February 2, 1927 to January 12, 2024

Obituary

With broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved sister and aunt who died in the company of her family in palliative care at St. Clare’s hospital on Friday, January 12, 2024.

Betty, previously from Bell Island, leaves to mourn, with cherished memories, her sisters Eleanor Burke and Daphne Custodio (Jules) and numerous nieces and nephews who she dearly loved.

Pre-deceased by her parents Tom and Alice (Fitzgerald) Neary, step-mother Sarah (Kavanagh) Neary, brothers Tom (Rita) and Patrick (Agnes), sisters Alice, Mary (Mike) Ryan and Annie Neary, half-sisters Diane (John) Beemis, Shirley (James) Dobbins and Sonia (Joe) Harvey; brother-in-law Edward Burke (Eleanor).

Betty had the kindest heart and a wonderful sense of humor.  She loved playing cards, going out to eat and afternoon coffee at Tim Hortons with her best friend and sister Eleanor.  For many years Betty would love to take the bus to the Avalon Mall with her two sisters Alice and Eleanor for an afternoon out which always ended with a meal at the food court.

A special thank you to the staff at St. Clare’s (7 East) for their kindness and exceptional care.  Also for the thoughtfulness of nurses Ann, Kaitlyn & Jonathan.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, January 18th  from 2-4 pm, and 7-9pm.  Funeral service will be held at Devine Mercy Parish (340A Newfoundland Drive) on Friday, January 19th at 11:00am.

Thank you for all the things you did to help Mom as we were going up. You and Alice’s support was a great help for Mom through many difficult times. We will miss your kindness and great sense of humour. And I will miss seeing you on my visits back home, playing cards and going out to for lunch at Tim Hortons or a restaurant. May you rest in peace I will always think of you with love.

Mrs. Burke, Daphne, and all families,

Condolences to Betty’s family. Such a sweet lady. May she rest in peace.

Our sincere condolences from Ralph and Bonnie. Betty always had a smile on her face. Her cup was always half full and not half empty. Every time we came home for a visit Elizabeth and I would take Betty (and Alice and Sonia when they were alive) out for a nice supper and it was the highlight of their day. We will miss Betty very much. She is in heaven with the Lord now and her soul is at peace.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister/aunt. God bless her. May she Rest In Peace.

Sincere condolences from Aubrey and I to Eleanor and the rest of her family. She was a kind gentle person. May her soul rest in peace.
