Cecile Blanche Bradbury (nee Hounsell)

February 25, 1940 to June 15, 2024

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Cecile who passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on June 15th, 2024 at the young age of 84.
Mom had her granddaughter Kayla Bradbury with her and we are forever grateful for that.

Mom was born in Wesleyville, NL to Cecil & Marion Hounsell on February 25, 1940 as the younger sibling to her brother Ronald Hounsell (Sandra). Cecil was tragically lost at sea while fishing when mom was still very young. Some years later her mother married Effie Turner of Happy Adventure, NL and they added siblings Nigel Turner (Gail), Bruce Turner (Linda), Catherine Turner Ryan (Daryl) and Rosalind Holmes (nee: Turner) (Howard).

Mom married twice, first to Roy Bannister and had Roger (Caroline), Trevor (Cynthia), Troy (Teresa), Sherri (Frank) and Tracey (Dennis). They divorced and mom married the love of her life Clyde Edwin Bradbury in 1972 who had daughters Donna, Linda and Lynette. We became like the Partridge family, like one big blended family. Mom and Clyde also had a child together Jodi Durdle-Awa. Grandchildren Sarah Bradbury (Steve), Nicholas Bradbury (Alanna), Kayla Bradbury and Gabriel St-Amant (Marina) will all dearly miss their grandmother plus many, many nieces and nephews all over Canada.

Our mother took an active role in her local communities, St. Philip’s and Paradise. Mom enjoyed playing the organ at the St. Philip’s Anglican Church for more years than I can remember. Everyone enjoyed her music and she was proud of all the compliments she received.

Everyone who met mom were drawn in by her warmth, kindness and loving nature.

Mom worked at NL Housing for twenty-five years and forged many great friendships before retiring. She was living at Lane’s Retirement Living where she had made many new friends there who will also miss her dearly.

Mom has been cremated according to her wishes.

Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday June 20th.

Funeral service will take place on Friday, June 21st, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s Anglican Church.

Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Philip’s Anglican Church.
